Dr Bryan offers the following suggestions for incorporating a practice of daily  walking into your life:

"My suggestions are first to be brave.  To start a new movement, one must be willing to do something different than the rest with confidence and joy.  That is what attracts others. Make your efforts in service of yourself, your family and your community. By setting an example you stand to help many more people.  Keep that in mind when you are feeling scared and weak.  I also call on the Creator to reinforce my efforts.

Second, try to get others to join you who are like-minded. It is always better to do things in groups.  It is more fun and there is greater momentum and stability.

Thirdly, be consistent.  Do the same thing every day.  It will rapidly become a habit.  Example an after lunch walk or after work walk, etc. every day M - F no matter the weather.

Fourthly, start low and go slow. So, start with short, easy walks, for example, and then gradually increase the time and distance and even the terrain to make it harder, but go very slowly, especially with a group.  The larger the group the slower you increase the challenge, unless everyone is very keen to advance quicker. Remember you want to make this a lifestyle change, i.e. for the rest of your life, so you must enjoy it and make it a part of your life. Starting low and going slow also allows your body to make adaptive changes and avoid injury or pain.

Finally, encourage each other. It does not have to be things as much as kind and encouraging words. What we are all looking for is love and acceptance and not physical things, so give that to each other.

Interesting thing about exercise is within only a few days, you start to feel better in so many ways. It is easily addicting, especially if you have a group to encourage each other.

I wish you luck and sincerely hope that everyone will engage in this process. We will all live longer, healthier lives!"
