What essential information is needed for service providers to offer culturally relevant and empowering services for Carrier First Nations people? Carrier Sekani Family Services (CSFS) worked with elders and knowledge holders from our Nations to develop the Nowh Guna’ (Our Way) Carrier culture resource, to help develop culturally competent service providers. Rich with direct quotes from our community members, the book is the perfect tool for passing on the right ‘spirit of service’ for professionals working with Carrier people. It addresses today’s culture and shows how that culture is rooted in pre-contact traditions, influences since contact, and impacts of our modern world.
We excited to announce that the Nowh Guna' books are now available in Prince George at Books and Company. Bulk orders, and orders from our member Nations are also available by contacting CultureTraining@csfs.org. Proceeds from the sales of Nowh Guna’ will be used to provide culture competency training to our staff. The training will be piloted with CSFS programs in the next few months, and then will be available to our community partners!
