Foster Caregiver & Resource Services

Every child deserves to grow up feeling safe, loved, and connected to their culture. By becoming a foster caregiver, you help a child stay close to their community, traditions, and identity.

You do not have to be Indigenous to be a foster caregiver, however First Nation, Métis, Inuit Status and Non-Status Indigenous foster caregivers are needed across Northern BC.

THE PROGRAM

Foster care is a temporary, safe, and supportive home for children/youth who can't live with their parents. Caregivers provide children with stability, love, and connection to community during times of transition or crisis. Caregivers provide a wide range of care from relief/respite care, short term care, and long-term care.

Our goal is always to reunite children with their families when it is safe to do so. Caregivers help children and youth remain connected to their Nation and culture by going to community events and family gatherings.

Once a caregiver is approved, our program works directly with caregivers and staffed homes to ensure that Indigenous children and youth in care get the care they need.

WHO CAN BE A CAREGIVER

Caregivers can be single, married, partnered, adults (19+), grandparents, or Elders. You don’t need to own your home or vehicle; you just need to be willing to provide a loving, stable, and nurturing home.

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED

Become a Foster Caregiver
Open your home to a child in need and help raise them alongside their family and their Nation. You’ll receive training, support, and financial assistance in providing excellent care for children and youth.

Refer Someone You Know
Know someone with a big heart and an openness to embracing culture? Encourage them to reach out—we welcome referrals from family and community.

Share the Word
Share our videos, posters, or events in your community. The more people who know, the more children we can keep close to their Nation.
