Federal Indian Hospitals Settlement Support

The Federal Indian Hospital (FIH) Settlement claims period opened on January 27, 2026. Claimants have until July 27, 2028 to submit a claim. 

About: 
The Federal Indian Hospitals Settlement is open to people who were admitted to a Federal Indian Hospital while it was operated by the Government of Canada. If you experienced this, you may be eligible to receive money for the harms you have suffered.  

Compensation: 
Compensation ranges from $10,000 to $200,000 depending on the level of harm experienced. 

Supports Available: 
Our Indian Residential School Support Worker, Shawna Larocque, can assist with applications for this settlement. She is available to support you throughout the process and advocate for you.  
To apply for the claims form you must have: 

  • 2 pieces of government identification (copies of the front and back) including: 
    • Certificate of Indian Status
    • One other piece of government identification (i.e. drivers license, care card)
  • Social Insurance Number Status Number 
  • Filled out claims form

Deceased Loved Ones: 
Families of deceased former patients who passed away on or after January 25, 2016, may also be eligible to submit a Claim through the Estates process. To apply, make an application for a deceased applicant – additional documentation is required to prove your authority to act as an Estate Representative. You can find the information needed for this on page 26 of the FIH Claim Form.
