It is with profound sadness that CSFS mourns the passing of George George Sr., a cherished Yinka Dene Elder and one of the guiding forces behind our organization.
For many years, George represented Nadleh Whut’en on the CSFS Board of Directors, offering wisdom and leadership that helped shape the organization from its earliest days. He was also an inaugural member of the CSFS Research Advisory Committee, where he played a pivotal role in defining research priorities. George was passionate about ensuring our work is guided by respect for traditional knowledge and community needs.
George’s contributions went far beyond governance. As a respected Knowledge Holder, he was instrumental in the Our Children, Our Family, Our Laws project, providing guidance that has helped keep children with their families and communities. This work has paved the way for the jurisdiction work we continue today.
One of George’s lasting legacies was his role in embedding culture into CSFS practices. The Our Children, Our Family, Our Laws bah’lats he helped organize at Lake Babine Nation stands as a powerful example of his commitment to cultural preservation and community well-being.
We will deeply miss his wisdom, his generosity, and his unwavering dedication to our shared mission. Our thoughts and prayers are with George’s family, friends, and all who were touched by his extraordinary life and legacy.
