EVENT - Wiping the Tears Healing Ceremony

EVENT - Wiping the Tears Healing Ceremony

June 10, 2021

Carrier Sekani Family Services, Nadleh Whut'en First Nation and Stellat'en First Nation will be hosting a healing ceremony at the Lejac Residential School site to honour the 215 children found at the Kamloops Residential School and all whose lives have been impacted by residential schools.

Everyone is welcome. Fire Keepers and mental wellness workers will be on site. Public health orders will be followed. Bring your own lawn chair. Camping will not be permitted at the Lejac site. For camping options near Lejac, please see Peterson's Beach, Beaumont Park, or Piper's Glen.

We are also asking for donations for NEW children's shoes. They will be displayed as a memorial during the healing ceremony, and then donated to children in need after the event. If you are wanting to donate children's shoes, please bring them to the event.

You can download the agenda here.

If this is your first time attending a healing ceremony, or not sure what to expect, you can read our write up on the event protocols and activities here.

For more information surrounding the event, read our booklet, which will be available in print during the event.

The Lejac Residential School site is not a marked turn, and so it can be a little difficult to find. If you are coming from Vanderhoof, it'll be the next right turn after the turnoff to the Fraser Lake West Fraser Sawmill. If you are coming from the Fraser Lake side, it will be the next left after you see the Lejac gas station on the right hand side.

Mussi to First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) for sponsoring the event.
