The I AM Women’s Wellness Conference was held from April 28-30 in Prince George, where women from member Nations gathered to connect with one another and listen to keynotes, attend workshops, and play sports.
The conference was created because we believe that women's health and wellness needs must be invested in to build capacity, strengthen generational relationships, and address the systemic barriers that impact the wellbeing of women and families.
Attendees had the chance to focus on all areas of wellness with keynotes from Olympic medalist and mental health advocate Clara Hughes, Indigenous Olympic hockey player Brigette Lacquette, Dr. Terri Aldred, Indigenous actress Grace Dove, Indigenous actress Keilani Rose, and a keynote on Women Leading in Business featuring Niky Tevely, Holly West, and Zandra Ross. Attendees enjoyed services such as getting their hair braided, massages, going through energy work, or getting their tarot cards read.
Afternoons were filled with workshops centred on women’s health and wellness needs. The workshops included goal setting, financial understanding, self-empowerment, national safety, and a guide to challenging behaviours. Participants could also join a beading class or go golfing.
Together women can make a difference, and this gathering showed that even just showing up can have impacts from big to small.
