Every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and empowered. At CSFS, we envision a future where Indigenous children and youth are growing and living to their full potential. In working towards this goal, CSFS Youth Services offers the PEACE Program, providing violence prevention support for Indigenous children and youth.
The PEACE Program (Prevention, Education, Advocacy, Counselling and Empowerment) delivers free and confidential services to those aged 8 to 18 who have experienced or witnessed violence, especially at home. The program provides a range of activities designed to keep children and youth engaged and informed. Some activities include individual and group counseling, supportive resources like youth-focused educational initiatives, violence prevention education, and wellness-based resources, such as yoga sessions.
These activities are thoughtfully crafted to create lasting positive impacts on Indigenous children and youth. The goal is to not only assist in healing from violence, but also to help Indigenous youth cultivate a strong sense of identity. By creating a space for connection, learning, and empowerment, the program reminds young people who have experienced violence that they are not alone, and a healthier future is possible.
Kirstie, a CSFS Intensive Youth Social Worker and delegated PEACE program counsellor, shares: “Through the PEACE Program, I hope Indigenous youth gain a deeper understanding of their strengths, learn healthy ways to express their emotions, build confidence, strengthen their support networks, and develop tools for safety, healing, and resilience. The program seeks to help youth understand that violence is never their fault and that they deserve safety, respect, and healthy relationships.”
Children and youth from CSFS member Nations are encouraged to join this program on the second and fourth Monday of each month from 3pm to 5pm. Sessions are held at the Prince George Youth Services office at 853 3rd Ave. For more information, contact Youth Services at 250-564-5643.
