Teaching Bah’lats Brings Community Together in Vancouver

Posted on July 24, 2026

On May 15, the Urban Family Preservation program marked an important milestone by hosting its first Teaching Bah’lats in Vancouver. The gathering brought together community members, Elders, and CSFS Staff from far and wide. The Bah’lats was dedicated to honouring caregivers, families, and young adults for the important role they play in creating safe, respectful, and supportive environments in their communities.

The event gave participants an opportunity to learn about Indigenous values and protocols while connecting with one another. “It reinforces the importance of supporting one another and ensuring that everyone feels valued, heard, and connected,” said Sandra Wilson, CSFS Practice Manager.

As attendees engaged in cultural teachings and conversations, there was a genuine openness and willingness to listen, share, and learn from one another. “The teachings created space for conversations that honoured culture, lived experiences, and the importance of caring for one another,” Sandra shared.

For CSFS staff, this teaching Bah’lats reflected the meaningful work they do and its profound impacts on establishing relationships. Reflecting on the day, Sandra shared, “Days like this strengthen our relationships with our clients and team, and create opportunities for healing, learning, and growth. It was inspiring to see everyone contribute to such a positive and supportive environment, and I look forward to seeing these gatherings continue to grow and bring our CSFS clients together.”

The Teaching Bah’lats is a reminder of the importance of gathering as a community to celebrate culture and those involved in strengthening community ties. We extend our deepest gratitude to those who participated and attended the event. Your support, contributions, and active engagement helped create a day filled with learning and long-lasting connections.
