The Early Years Centre is located at Carrier Sekani Family Services office’s in Vanderhoofand Burns Lake. The Early Years Centre Coordinator is available to answer questions about the services, complete a developmental screening, make referrals to other agencies, help find suitable preschool/daycare and deliver early years programming in all different atmospheres. The centre offers literacy, developmental screening, parenting programs and services.
The program is available to Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal families who reside in Vanderhoof and Saik’uz First Nation with children 0 – 6 years old and their families.
BURNS LAKE PROGRAMS
Toy Lending Library
The Toy lending library is for parents and caregivers to borrow toys. This program is located at the Muriel Mould Learning Centre. There is a lifetime membership fee for a minimal of $5.00. This program is available on Thursdays from 8:30 to 3:30. If this day should not serve well, families may contact the program and arrange an alternative day.
Art and Craft Time
Runs every Tuesday 9:30-11:30, this program is free for families to attend. Families are offered a snack and a choice of some art activities for their children to participate in.
Every spring break this program offers special programming for families to attend.
This offers a variety of programs throughout the summer months. Information can be attained through the centre.
Toy Lending Library
Located in the basement of the Glad Tidings Tabernacle (2709 Burrard St) for children 0 – 6 years of age and their caregivers. A one-time $5.00 membership fee entitles your family to a lifetime membership, which allows you to borrow up to three toys for a period of two weeks.
Getting Ready for Kindergarten
A school readiness program designed to assist children in developing essential skills they will need upon entering kindergarten. There is no fee for this program.
The pre-school program is a play-based program that offers children aged 3-5 years old the opportunity to learn and develop social skills. The program has both morning and afternoon classes. There is a fee of $125.00 per month.
Group time programs are offered to the Saik’uz Daycare once a week.
The Early Years Centre also has up to date information on other early years programming offered in the community. When visiting the centre, anyone can sign up for a monthly newsletter and find added family resources. Please call to gather more information on any of the programs.
