Early Years Centre

A British Columbia Early Years Centre has opened at the Carrier Sekani Family Services office at 240 West Stewart Street here in Vanderhoof District. We provide services to individuals from the Vanderhoof area, and Saik'uz First Nation to support children aged 0-6 and their families. The centre offers literacy, developmental screening, parenting programs and services for both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal families.

The Early Years Centre runs the following programs:

  • Toy Lending Library – Located in the basement of the Glad Tidings Tabernacle (2709 Burrard St) for children 0-6yrs and their caregivers.  A one-time $5 membership fee entitles your family to a lifetime membership, which allows you to borrow up to three toys for a period of two weeks.
  • Getting Ready for Kindergarten – This school readiness program is designed to assist children in developing the skills they will need when entering kindergarten.  There is no fee for this program.
  • Pre-school – A play based preschool program offers children aged 3-5 the opportunity to learn and develop social skills.  The program has a morning and afternoon class, and the cost is $125.00 a month.

The Early Years Centre also has up to date information on child care spaces in Vanderhoof, as well as information on other early years programming offered in our community.  If you stop in to visit the centre at 240 West Stewart Street, you can sign up for a monthly newsletter and look at the resources available to you and your family.
