About the Program

Navigating the child welfare system can feel overwhelming, especially while managing the day-to-day responsibilities of family life. Urban Family Preservation offers advocacy, practical programming and supportive relationships to help families move toward their goals.

Support is provided through group programming or one-to-one interaction with skilled staff. Programming is hands-on, culturally grounded and focused on strengthening families, building life skills and reducing isolation.

Who This Serves

Prince George families who:

  • Are involved, or at risk of involvement, with the Ministry of Children and Family Development
  • Are seeking support related to parenting, life skills, or self-help
  • Wish to participate in family support or life skills groups
  • Do not need an open Family Support file to take part

How We Can Support You

Advocacy and system navigation: Guidance to understand child welfare processes, explore options and take next steps with support that centres family needs.
Adult support and life skills groups: Skill-building for everyday life, including budgeting, communication, time management, decision-making and stress management.
Parenting groups: Safe, supportive spaces to share experiences, learn new strategies and build connections with other parents.
Culturally relevant learning: Hands-on sessions that may include parenting, child-parent attachment, personal identity, effects of colonization, holistic wellness, goal setting, relationships, financial management, healthy lifestyles and relapse prevention.
