"Hadih everyone,
I am Mac Cardinal the new physiotherapist out of the CSFS Burns Lake Clinic. My family and I have been in the Burns Lake area for the past six years. You may have seen me on the ball diamond, where I play with local teams (Timberwolves, Redskins). Previous to these years, I played with my cousin’s team Custom Edge in the Spruce City League.
My traditional territory is the Chetwynd area – Moccasin Flats to be exact (not to be confused with the Moccasin Flats in Prince George). There is an awesome documentary on my people, which you can find here: https://vimeo.com/72762172. In the film, you can see my Chapan (great grandparents) make hides – a skill that I want to learn and integrate into my practice. Also, I am very interested in the Carrier recipes for hide that involve salmon oil, which I have heard about locally.
I am alumni of D.P Todd, CNC, as well as the University of Alberta, where I was able to learn under Dr. David Magee. To this day, I continue to utilize these foundational teachings.
Early in my career, I worked with some of Canada’s largest private rehabilitation healthcare companies: Canadian Back Institute (now CBI Health) and LifeMark Health. During that decade I became a clinical teacher of Dr. Hamilton Hall’s (Medical Director and surgeon) Spinal Assessment and Patterns of Pain. Becoming a clinic manager exposed me to Gallup Group models of building teams on natural talents and data driven management styles.
Being a lifelong learner and having an interest in the science of pain I took positions with LifeMark Health to work with their large chronic pain programming. I was the Chronic Pain Lead Physiotherapist at the Meadowlark (Edmonton) and Keefer Place (Vancouver) clinics, which continue to run very successful chronic pain management programs.
After 2010, I had a desire to work with organized sports, and I moved to Prince George, which is much closer to my traditional territory. I joined a good friend and colleague’s physiotherapy clinic, which was responsible for University of Northern British Columbia’s basketball and soccer teams, functional testing and private care.
Now, my path has led me to Burns Lake, and I couldn’t be happier to offer my services to the Nations served by CSFS. For referral to physiotherapy services, please speak to your local CSFS Nation Health Centre."
