Carrier Sekani Family Services (CSFS) will mark National Day of Truth and Reconciliation on September 30 with a ceremony and special screening of a new documentary at Vancouver’s Trade and Convention Centre.
The movie “For Love” investigates the tragic legacy of residential schools and the connection to the overrepresentation of Indigenous children in the foster care system. The event fulfills the Truth and Reconciliation Call to Action #80.
Mary Teegee, Executive Director of Child and Family Services at CSFS and producer of “For Love”, says that the film exposes a terrible part of Canadian history that many non-Indigenous people are starting to realize.
“The horrors of residential schools are finally starting to be understood by non-Indigenous Canadians. In this film, we meet the survivors, their families, and the communities that have been devastated by the government’s child welfare system. But we also witness their resilience and the rebuilding of family bonds and rich cultures.”
“For Love” is produced by Carrier Sekani Family Services and Walk Tall Productions, in partnership with director Matt Smiley, along with executive directors Cindy Blackstock and Lindsay Eberts, and narrated by Shania Twain.
Additional screenings, including virtual screenings, will be announced later this year, so stay tuned for how you can watch “For Love”.
