September 30: National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, “For Love” film screening
Vancouver – Carrier Sekani Family Services will mark National Day of Truth and Reconciliation on September 30 with a ceremony and special screening of a new documentary at Vancouver’s Trade and Convention Centre.
The movie “For Love” investigates the tragic legacy of residential schools and the connection to the overrepresentation of children in the foster care system. The event fulfills the Truth and Reconciliation Call to Action #80.
For Love is narrated by Canadian singer Shania Twain.

“The horrors of residential schools are finally starting to be understood by non-Indigenous Canadians,” said producer Mary Teegee of Carrier Sekani Family Services. “In this film we meet the survivors, their families and the communities that have been devastated by the government’s child welfare system. But we also witness their resilience and the rebuilding of family bonds and rich cultures.”
