Community engagement with CSFS member Nations has been successful in helping build a strong foundation for moving jurisdiction work forward, and while great progress has been made, there is still important work ahead. Our next step is to expand that engagement to community members living in urban areas throughout British Columbia, with future events designed to help urban members learn, share, and stay connected to important developments affecting children, families, and Nations.
To help make these events meaningful and accessible, we are asking urban community members to complete a short survey that will guide future planning.
Why we are asking for your input
Many members live outside their home communities. We know that staying connected can sometimes be challenging, which is why we want to better understand where community members are located and how we can create opportunities to connect.
Your feedback will help us understand community interest and determine how and where to connect with urban community members across British Columbia through engagement opportunities that are meaningful, accessible, and responsive to community needs.
Supporting the jurisdiction journey
This outreach work is part of the broader jurisdiction initiative, Skak ha ba bay / Nezkeh ba (For Our Children).
CSFS and member Nations are working together to shift decision-making for child and family services from the Province to Nations. This shift will be done through a Carrier Sekani child and family well-being law. This law will recognize each Nation’s right to be the decision-maker for their own children and families.
Community participation helps ensure voices from across the province are included as this work moves forward.
