Carrier Sekani Family Services

Nursing & Home Care

Our Nursing service provides Registered Nurses throughout our member First Nation communities. Services are based on population size and range anywhere from one to five days per week in each community. Nurses in our communities provide many services including but not limited to: men’s and women’s wellness clinics, pre and post natal education and care, immunization programs for infants and children, as well as health education as required to meet the changing needs of each community.

Regular home visits to elders to assess their changing needs and provide support are ongoing. Collaboration with doctors, specialists and Community Health Representatives allows for culturally sensitive and holistic care. Out of our 7 health centers we have one nursing station that provides treatment services in a remote community.

The Home Care Program provides personal care and support to our members based on their individual needs and medical issues. The program consists of a team of Residential Care Aides and Registered Nurses that rotate throughout our ten member First Nations. The RCA’s provide personal care and assistance with activities of daily living to ensure that our clients maintain a healthy life. The RCA works in collaboration with the Home Care Nurses and the Community Health Nurses in each community to ensure culturally sensitive and holistic care.

Each client is referred by a CHR, CHN, or community/family member and once referred, the client is assessed by the Home Care Nurse and a care plan is formulated based on the client’s needs. A reassessment is completed every 3 months to monitor the client’s changing health care needs and so to better provide for each client.
