Carrier Sekani Family Services

Family Support Services

Mission and Objective:
The Family Support Program offers services that empower the community, families and individuals through a holistic approach guided by an Aboriginal perspective. Each member of our team delivers their services based on a holistic wellness model that honors and recognizes each person as an individual with their own gifts, values and strengths.

Our team strives to be open, flexible and accessible to the families of our communities. We value the knowledge of our elders and are thankful for their guidance and input to our programming. We focus on group work in order to provide more efficient service delivery and foster peer supports.

We believe in teamwork with one another, the families we support, other programs and services in our agency as well as other community service providers. The focus of our work is to be proactive and to foster empowerment and wellness for our families.

The Family Support Program is funded by MCFD and provides support and advocacy to Aboriginal children and families in the community of Prince George. The core objective of the Family Support Program is to reduce the number of Aboriginal children entering government care. Referrals are welcomed for any of our programs from individuals and families of the community or other community agencies.

The program specifically works with people in terms of support and advocacy and refers individuals and families to various programs within our agency and community including but not limited to: individual and family wellness, parent support, alcohol and drug addiction services, anger management, support, advocacy, and life skills programs for children and adults.

Also under our umbrella of services is the Community Linkages Soup Bus, the Home Support Program and the Bridging to Employment Program. The Community Linkages Program's mandate is to provide mobile food distribution, support, education, and referrals to Aboriginal individuals and families. The Home Support Program provides contracted supervised visits for family members as well as transportation to and from the visits. The Bridging to Employment Program teaches daily living strategies to students while assisting them to deal with the issues in their lives which are barriers to employment.
